The grest disney legend Milt Khal, perhaps the best drafsman in animation history (well, as they called) ,worked in silent condition. He never listen to music while working. He reasoned that he's not smart enough to concentrate two things at once.
The father of Japanese animation, Tezuka Osamu, the creator of popular manga such as Astro Boy and Black Jack works with loud classical music. Because he was widely influenced by classical music in his family and he too was a musician himself. He said that listening to classical music gets him into a different state and thus his creativity bursts.
My conclusion, learn from the greats, but don't take it blindly. Their methods aren't necessarily work for you. You are unique and only you know what's better for yourself. So, find your style and develop your own thing.

I think a lot of the times, people try to imitate others thinking that they can eventually be that person by imitating. The truth is that you are who you are. Imitating someone will get you started quick, but eventually you'll need to fall back to yourself.
In arts language, it's not where you took it from, but where you take it to. In other words, it's cool to take someone else's idea, but you have to be able to take it to another level to make it truly outstanding.
