I made a goal to myself last month that I will complete 4k run by the end of April. Today I did it. And the most exciting part was that I still had a lot left in my tank. Before I started the run, I actually backed off a bit by telling myself that I'll set my goal at 3.5k first, and if I felt I can keep going, I'll go ahead and go for 4k. As soon as I had that thought, I immediately erased it off my head. I told myself that I should set for a clear goal and do my best to achieve it. So I did exactly that. I set my goal at 4k, had my music ready, and took off. I was happy that I finished the run, and moreover, it was a good confidence builder.
I was a bit worried that I will get impatient in the middle of the run and my breathing pattern will be ruined. Then quickly I tried to mentally readjust myself that 4k is just 1k x 4, meaning you run 1k four times. Since it's very easy to finish 1k run, it shouldn't be so hard to do it 4 times.
That mind set helped greatly! I kept my poise and the run went smoothly.
I once read a book of Michael Jordan and there was one guy wondering how come it seems so easy to him to score 30+ points every night. Michael said: "It's easy. It's just 8 points every quarter."
That's where I got the idea from. Good job Michael :D
